In WA, you do an online vehicle transfer through DoTDirect, the Department of Transport’s portal—no queue, no sighing at a ticket machine.
The seller logs in to lodge a notice of disposal/transfer with the plate or VIN, odometer reading and the buyer’s details; the buyer then logs in to accept and pays the transfer fee plus vehicle licence duty (stamp duty).
You have 7 days from the sale date, or late fees come knocking like an over-enthusiastic neighbour.
Have ID, rego/plate or VIN, buyer/seller details and a payment method handy; if details don’t match or the licence has issues, expect a speed bump.
Save the confirmations for both sides, because receipts beat “my dog ate it” every time.
For exact fees and edge cases (concessions, dealers, deceased estates), check the WA Department of Transport.
