An orange engine light on a Mercedes is the car’s polite way of saying something in the engine or emissions system isn’t happy. If it’s solid, you can usually keep driving gently and book a diagnostic; if it’s flashing, that often means a misfire that can roast the catalytic converter—pull over and get help. Common causes include a loose fuel cap, dodgy oxygen sensors, a grubby MAF, failing coil packs or plugs, or vacuum leaks. Check the fuel cap first, then get the OBD-II codes read to avoid playing parts darts. Keep revs down and avoid heavy loads until it’s fixed, because ignoring it can turn a cheap sensor into an expensive exhaust system.
