Driving in Victoria on an overseas licence? Too easy—if it’s valid and in English, you’re good; if not, carry an official translation or an International Driving Permit.
If you decide to settle in Victoria, you’re expected to convert to a Victorian licence within six months rather than living the eternal tourist dream.
You must carry your licence (and any translation/IDP) at all times and obey Victorian road rules and any conditions printed on your licence.
Young or novice drivers can expect equivalent restrictions to apply, so no creative interpretations of “back home we do it this way.”
If anything’s expired or you can’t prove who you are, you won’t be driving—VicRoads will happily introduce you to the paperwork.
