In Queensland, the P driving test (Q-SAFE) is the practical exam you take to go from learner to P1, and it’s less about heroics and more about calm, clean driving.
If you’re under 25 you’ll need 100 hours in your logbook including 10 hours at night, and you must pass the online Hazard Perception Test before booking.
The drive itself runs for around half an hour with a quick vehicle check, and usually includes things like a reverse park, hill start and a U-turn or three-point turn.
You’re assessed on observation, speed management, gap selection, lane positioning and responding to signs and hazards—basically, grown-up road manners.
Bring your licence, an approved logbook, and a registered, roadworthy car; pass and you’re onto P1, fail and you simply book another go after the required wait.
