pajero vs land cruiser Page 2

Old-school Mitsubishi Pajero versus Toyota LandCruiser: the pub debate that never dies, even though the Pajero did (officially ended sales here in 2021).

Think of the Pajero as the thrifty, capable tourer; the LandCruiser as the heavy-duty rig with the price tag and appetite to match.

Both will cross the Simpson; one will do it with more leather and a thirst.

• Pajero pros: Cheaper on the used market; robust 3.2‑litre diesel; Super Select 4WD; decent comfort; about 3,000 kg towing.
• Pajero cons: Discontinued; safety/tech feel dated; less clearance and payload than a Cruiser; interior isn’t exactly plush.

• LandCruiser pros: Body-on-frame toughness; 3,500 kg towing; huge aftermarket; resale strong; serious off-road hardware.
• LandCruiser cons: Expensive to buy and run; big and heavy; tech complexity; finding clean ones can feel like bidding on the Opera House.

200 Series used a V8 diesel; 300 Series moved to a twin‑turbo V6 diesel—more grunt and money; choose by budget, towing needs and how remote your plans get.
