paperwork when buying a car privately qld Page 8

Buying a car privately in Queensland means you better get your paperwork in order, or risk turning a shiny dream into a bureaucratic nightmare. You'll need the original vehicle registration papers, a completed transfer of ownership form (F3520), and a receipt or proof of purchase with seller and buyer details. Don't forget to check if there are any outstanding fines or finance on the vehicle, because the last thing you want is a surprise debt.

The buyer must lodge the transfer with the Department of Transport and Main Roads within 14 days to avoid fines. Registration transfer fees apply, so keep your wallet ready. For all the nitty-gritty, ServiceCentral and Tradingpost have handy guides to keep you sane.
