There isn’t a separate “PayID account” — PayID is a nickname (mobile, email, ABN or Organisation ID) you attach to an existing Australian bank account for fast NPP payments.
You set it up in your bank’s app or online banking, choose which account it points to, and you can move or delete it later if you change banks.
When someone pays your PayID, their app shows your registered name before they send, and the money usually lands in seconds, even on weekends.
You can register multiple PayIDs (e.g., email for savings, mobile for everyday) but only one account per PayID at a time.
It’s secure at the bank end, but you still need common sense: confirm the name preview, beware “refund” or “overpayment” scams, and never share one-time codes.
Businesses often use an ABN PayID to dodge typos and BSB/account-number mix-ups — far tidier than chasing mystery transfers.
