perth car rego Page 10

In WA, “car rego” is your vehicle licence, handled by the Department of Transport. To register or transfer in Perth, you’ll need proof of identity, proof of ownership, a WA garaging address, and (if it’s unlicensed or defected) a vehicle inspection. Bought a car? Lodge the transfer within 14 days or cop a late fee; you can pay 3, 6 or 12 months, with costs typically around AUD 700–1,100 a year for a normal passenger car. For interstate moves or fresh imports, expect WA plates and an inspection if the car isn’t already licensed here. Fees include the licence charge, compulsory motor injury insurance, and vehicle licence duty—roughly 3–6.5% of the car’s value. Do it online or at a DoT service centre, smile politely, and resist the urge to argue with the ticket machine. This is general guidance; check WA DoT for exact requirements and current fees.
