petrol excise increase Page 1057

Wondering about the petrol excise increase? In Australia, the fuel excise is indexed to inflation, so it nudges up twice a year in small steps—usually fractions of a cent per litre.

That rise is baked into the bowser price, and yes, GST applies on top of excise, so it feels like a tax wearing another tax as a hat.

Governments can temporarily cut it, but absent a new law the indexation keeps marching.

Net effect: a modest bump to your per‑litre cost, more noticeable over long commutes or thirsty utes. If you’re tracking every cent, check official budget and ATO updates for the latest rates.
