Hunting PHEVs in Australia in 2023? You’ve got family-friendly options like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and MG HS Plus EV, plus Euro plug-ins such as Volvo XC60/90 Recharge, Cupra Leon/Formentor VZe, BMW 330e/X5, and Mercedes-Benz C/GLC plug-ins.

Most offer 40–90 km of electric-only range, enough for the school run without waking the petrol engine, and a petrol back-up for those spontaneous Bunnings pilgrimages.

Home charging on AC 7 kW typically takes a few hours; some models add DC fast-charge, but many don’t—check the spec sheet before you plan café-to-café sprints.

Downsides? Extra weight, smaller boots, and pricing that can make a frugal diesel look like a clearance rack—though running costs can be excellent if you charge nightly.
