plug in hybrids australia 2023 Page 177

If 2023 Australia had a theme, it was “commute electric, road-trip petrol” — plug‑in hybrids played the double act nicely.

Typical PHEVs offer about 50–90 km of electric-only range and recharge in a few hours on a 7 kW AC wallbox, then behave like efficient hybrids on the highway.

Popular 2023 options included:

• Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross PHEV – family-friendly, proven tech.
• Kia Sorento PHEV – seven seats with city EV running.
• MG HS Plus EV – sharp value and easy ownership.
• Volvo XC60/XC90 Recharge – swift, polished, and not shy about power.
• BMW 330e and X5 xDrive45e – premium feel, strong performance.
• Peugeot 3008/508 PHEV, Cupra Leon/Formentor VZe, and Ford Escape PHEV also made the cut.

Pick based on your daily electric range, charging at home/work, and how often you venture beyond the city limits.
