About this page

prado or fortuner

Both Prado and Fortuner run the 2.8‑litre turbo‑diesel with low‑range, but they play different tunes.

The Prado rides softer, is quieter, has more cabin polish and full‑time 4WD—great for long trips and towing.

Prado pros: comfort, refinement, bigger fuel tank and strong resale; cons: higher price, more weight, and tow ratings typically up to 3,000 kg depending on year/spec.

Fortuner pros: sharper pricing, lighter kerb mass, slightly higher tow figure (up to 3,100 kg, model‑year dependent) and Hilux‑hardened toughness; cons: firmer ride, more road noise, smaller boot.

Off‑road, both are properly capable; Prado feels less busy on corrugations, while Fortuner’s ladder‑frame roots are a bit more, shall we say, chatty.

No winner picked—choose by budget, towing needs and how much family comfort you want.
