problems with mazda cx-5 diesel Page 4

The Mazda CX-5 diesel can be brilliant on fuel and torque, but it’s got a moody side if your life is all school runs and short hops. The usual suspects revolve around soot, sensors, and oil that starts smelling like a servo.

• DPF regeneration issues on frequent short trips, leading to clogged filters, warning lights, and diesel dilution of engine oil.
• EGR valve and intake soot build-up causing rough idle, hesitation, and the occasional coal-rolling impersonation.
• DPF pressure/temperature sensor faults triggering limp mode and dashboard disco.
• Split or loose intercooler hoses leading to loss of boost and smokier-than-usual exits.

Regular highway runs to complete regens, oil changes with the correct spec at sensible intervals, and up-to-date ECU software keep them sweet; get a specialist to scan live data before buying and you’ll dodge most of the drama.
