Stop. Do not start the engine, don’t even turn the ignition on—modern diesels prime the system and spread the mistake around faster than gossip in a small town. Call roadside assistance and get the tank drained and lines flushed; it’s far cheaper than rebuilding a high-pressure fuel pump. If you did drive it, watch for rough running, misfires, smoke, and warning lights, then tow it to a mechanic before it eats the injectors for breakfast. Even a small splash of petrol kills diesel’s lubrication, so topping up with diesel and “she’ll be right” is how wallets cry. A proper drain/flush might be a few hundred AUD; injector or pump damage can leap into the thousands. Next time, use the diesel nozzle’s bigger neck as a hint—and maybe slap a “DIESEL” sticker near the cap.
