In Queensland, a Certificate of Inspection (COI) is a periodic roadworthiness check for certain vehicles—so not your average school‑run hatch.
It’s required for heavy vehicles, buses, taxis, limousines and booked‑hire/rideshare vehicles, and some large trailers—basically anything carting people or serious mass for money.
Inspections happen at approved inspection stations and are typically needed annually, with taxis and some passenger services checked more often.
This is separate from a Safety Certificate (roadworthy) that private sellers need when selling or re‑registering a light vehicle in QLD.
Unsure where you fit? Check your vehicle class and usage before booking—beats turning up for the wrong paperwork and an awkward shrug.
