Buying or selling in QLD? You’ve got 14 days from the sale date to lodge a vehicle transfer with TMR, or the late-fee fairy comes knocking.
The seller must provide a current Queensland safety certificate for most registered light vehicles, and the buyer lodges the transfer online or at a TMR counter with the VIN/rego, odometer reading, and both parties’ details.
At lodgement you’ll pay a transfer fee plus motor vehicle duty (stamp duty) based on the vehicle’s dutiable value and cylinder/emissions class; plates usually stay on the car and the CTP rolls with the rego.
Buying interstate or transferring an unregistered vehicle? Different rules apply—think inspections, new plates, and fresh rego—so check TMR’s guidance before you start.
