rav4 2019 review Page 4

If you want a mid-size SUV that majors in common sense, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 is practically wearing a hi-vis vest.

The big news is the hybrid: real-world economy around 5L/100km is achievable, and it’s smoother than a barista’s small talk; the 2.0 petrol is fine, the 2.5 petrol/Edge AWD adds proper shove.

Ride and handling are calm rather than thrilling, yet the chassis feels planted, and the AWD’s terrain modes are more than just dashboard theatre.

Cabin space is generous, safety is ace (AEB, lane keep, adaptive cruise; 5-star ANCAP), though the early infotainment felt a bit last-decade.

It’s not exciting, but it’s wildly competent, frugal in hybrid form, and likely to outlive your enthusiasm for renovating.
