red p plate restrictions wa Page 4

Ah, the Red P plates in Western Australia – the rite of passage for young drivers who’ve just graduated from learner status but haven’t yet earned full freedom. The restrictions are there to keep you safe and, frankly, to keep the roads from turning into chaos.

• Speed limit: 90 km/h max, so no hooning on the freeway just yet.
• Passenger restrictions: No more than one passenger aged 16-20 during the first 6 months.
• Alcohol: Zero blood alcohol content (BAC), because apparently, the party can wait.
• Mobile phones: Absolutely no use while driving, even if you’re just checking the time.

These rules last for 6 months before you can move on to green Ps. For the nitty-gritty, check out the official WA Department of Transport guidelines or browse listings on CarShowroom for vehicles suitable for P platers.
