red p to green p vic Page 196

In Victoria, you move from red Ps (P1) to green Ps (P2) after 12 months on P1 with no suspensions or disqualifications—no extra test, just apply and pay the fee.

If you were under 21 when you got your P1, expect a total probationary stint of about 4 years (1 year P1 + 3 years P2); if you were 21 or older at first issue, you usually start on P2 for around 3 years.

Green Ps relax some passenger limits compared to red, but you still have zero BAC, no mobile use (including hands‑free), and restrictions on high‑powered vehicles.

It’s the same dance floor, just with fewer bouncers—until you graduate to a full licence. Check VicRoads for the fine print and any recent rule tweaks.
