The "retro Landcruiser" is a cheeky nod to Toyota's rugged legend, often referring to classic models like the FJ40 or early 70-Series. These beasts boast a 4.2L inline-six petrol or 4.0L diesel engine with a body-on-frame design that laughs in the face of modern fragility. Prices for vintage Landcruisers in Australia can range from $20,000 to over $70,000 AUD depending on condition and originality, while newer retro-styled versions or restorations can push much higher. They’re prized for their bulletproof reliability, off-road prowess, and that unmistakable vintage charm but beware of rust and the occasional mechanical quirks endemic to old iron.
