In Victoria a “REVS check” is now the national Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) search.
Do it via the official PPSR for about $2 using the vehicle’s VIN, and you’ll get a time‑stamped certificate.
It shows whether the car is under finance (encumbered), written off, or recorded as stolen.
For rego status and expiry, use VicRoads’ registration check with the plate number.
Cross‑check the VIN/engine numbers on the car against the paperwork—cloned plates are about as fun as a flat white gone flat.
Keep the PPSR certificate as proof of what you checked at the time of purchase, especially if you’re buying via Tradingpost or a private sale.
