In Queensland, a roadworthy certificate (aka Safety Certificate) is the official nod that your car isn’t a rolling hazard looking for a headline.
You’ll need one when selling a registered vehicle, transferring registration, or re-registering an unregistered light vehicle up to 4.5 tonnes GVM.
It’s issued by an Approved Inspection Station after checks of tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, windscreen, body/rust and general roadworthiness—think safety basics, not a full mechanical autopsy.
Book an inspection, fix any defects they note, and you’ll earn the certificate; skip it and you’re courting fines and a frosty chat with TMR.
Prices vary by provider, and the certificate only lasts a limited time/distance, so don’t get it ages before you plan to sell.
