roadworthy cost melbourne Page 7

In Melbourne, a roadworthy (RWC) inspection typically costs around $180–$300 for a standard passenger car, with larger/older vehicles or 4x4s often $250–$450+.

Prices aren’t fixed—licensed testers set their own fees—so ring around; reinspection can add $30–$80 if the first go finds faults, and repairs are extra (obviously).

The certificate is generally valid for 30 days from issue for transfer/registration, so don’t get it months before you plan to sell.

Quick wins: check tyres, lights, wipers, seatbelts, and windscreen chips before booking, because nothing torpedoes a budget like a bald tyre at the last minute.

Bottom line: budget a few hundred bucks and a smidge of patience—then enjoy the smug glow of being legal.
