rules for green p platers vic Page 2

Ah, the infamous Green P plates in Victoria—where enthusiasm meets regulation. These novice drivers must adhere to some strict rules to keep the roads safe and their insurance premiums semi-reasonable. First off, you must hold your Learner Permit for at least 12 months before you can graduate to your Green Ps, unless you’re over 21, in which case the rules get a bit more lenient.

Green P platers have a 0.00% blood alcohol limit, absolute zero tolerance, so keep the froth for the celebrations, not the steering wheel. Speed limits are also your enemy: you’re limited to 90 km/h on roads where the speed limit exceeds that. No mobile phones, no matter how tempting, and if you’re caught breaking the rules, demerit points and fines will come faster than a kangaroo on the loose.

For more nitty-gritty, ServiceCentral or the VicRoads website will have the official and detailed breakdowns. Remember, these rules are designed to keep both you and the rest of us off the obituary columns.
