In Queensland it’s called a Safety Certificate, but yes—your RWC has a shelf life.
For private sellers, it’s valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from the date of issue (whichever comes first). For licensed motor dealers, it’s 3 months or 1,000 km.
If it expires before transfer, you’ll need a fresh inspection—no creative excuses, no “but it only did a lap to Bunnings.”
Check the issue date on the certificate and plan the sale or rego transfer accordingly.
