In South Australia, number plate values come down to digits, rarity, and the all-important bragging-rights tax.

Fewer digits and tidy patterns (think 123, 11-11, or repeating pairs) draw stronger money; meaningful combos can do well if enough people care.

Condition and provenance matter, and a proper matching front/rear set beats a lonely orphan every day.

“New” personalised plates are bought from the state issuer for a set fee by style, while “used” collectible or heritage plates trade privately and at auction—where recent sales, not daydreamy asking prices, set reality.

To gauge yours, compare completed SA sales for similar digit counts and patterns, check transfer and rights-of-display rules, and remember local demand can swing prices faster than a summer southerly.

If you’re still torn, a written appraisal is cheap insurance against wishful thinking.
