The Saint Bernard, that lovable giant of the canine world, is famous for its rescue work in the Swiss Alps. These dogs are absolutely massive, with males tipping the scales at 64-120 kg and standing 70-90 cm tall. They sport a thick coat to brave the cold, and their gentle temperament makes them more likely to slobber on you than bite. Expect a Saint Bernard to live around 8-10 years, require moderate exercise, and shed like it's their full-time job.
New puppies can set you back anywhere between $2000 and $4000 AUD, while used or older dogs might be found on PuppyList or Tradingpost for less. Be warned: these dogs are prone to drooling, hip dysplasia, and heart issues, so regular vet checks are essential. If you want a mountain-sized cuddle buddy, the Saint Bernard is your go-to.
