salt flats australia Page 2

Australia's salt flats, also known as salt pans, are vast, flat expanses of ground covered with salt and other minerals. The most famous is the Lake Eyre salt pan in South Australia, which is the largest salt lake in the country and occasionally fills with water to create a spectacular sight. These salt flats are remnants of ancient inland seas, and their stark white surfaces can be blinding under the sun. The flats are often used for land-speed record attempts due to their flatness, although this is less frequent than in the Bonneville Salt Flats of the USA.

For adventurers and photographers, these areas offer surreal landscapes but beware of seasonal flooding and extreme temperatures. If you're looking to explore or buy land vehicles suitable for such terrains, sites like Tradingpost can be a useful resource.
