Looking for sand dunes around Mildura? You’re after the Perry Sandhills near Wentworth, about 40 km from Mildura, a sweeping maze of ancient red sand that looks like Mars with better sunsets.

Access is easy in a 2WD via sealed roads and a short stretch of gravel; park at the base and walk—driving on the dunes isn’t permitted, so keep the hooning to your imagination.

Go at sunrise or late arvo when the heat and glare back off, pack water, and expect wind that exfoliates you for free.

If you want proper sand driving, head for designated 4WD tracks in Murray–Sunset or Hattah–Kulkyne and drop pressures to about 18–22 psi (125–150 kPa), carry recovery gear, and don’t travel solo.
