seatbelt rules qld Page 8

Queensland keeps it simple: if your car has seatbelts, everyone wears them, every trip, no excuses.

Drivers must ensure passengers under 16 are correctly restrained, and little humans need age-appropriate child seats: under 6 months rearward-facing; 6 months–under 4 years rear- or forward-facing with an inbuilt harness; 4–under 7 years booster or forward-facing with harness; 7+ years use an adult seatbelt if it fits properly.

Front seat rules: children under 4 can’t sit in the front if the vehicle has 2+ rows; those 4–under 7 may only sit up front if all rear seats are occupied by kids under 7.

Yes, you can unbuckle briefly when reversing, and yes, cameras will notice if you “forget” the rest of the time.

Fines and demerits apply, and they stack if you’ve got multiple unrestrained passengers—so don’t.

Buckle up, keep the booster’s top tether snug, and save the heroics for the driveway basketball hoop.
