sell unregistered car qld Page 177

Yes, you can sell an unregistered car in Queensland—no need for a safety certificate, because that’s only required when selling a registered vehicle.

The buyer must sort their own transport: either an Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP) to drive it on public roads, or a trailer/tilt-tray—no “just a quick lap round the block,” thanks.

• Give a proper receipt with VIN, engine number (if available), odometer, price, date and both parties’ details.
• Do not let your number plates go with the car; if they’re still on it, remove and return them to TMR when cancelling rego.
• There’s no rego transfer—buyer will need a safety certificate, CTP and fees to register it in their name later.

Rules can change, so double-check with Queensland Transport and Main Roads; better a quick call now than a bureaucratic saga later.
