Selling a used car to a dealer is the fast-food version of car disposal: not gourmet, but done before you can say “rego papers”. Get 2–3 appraisals (online and in-person), then bring service history, both keys, ID, and any accessories; if there’s finance, a payout letter makes you look frighteningly organised. Expect an offer a few grand below a private sale—dealers need margin for reconditioning, warranty risk, and the joy of tyre-kickers you won’t have to meet. Give it a proper clean and fix cheap obvious stuff; kerbed wheels and dash warning lights are taxes for the next owner. Confirm how and when you’re paid (often same day), and make sure the contract lists the VIN, agreed price, and who’s handling rego transfer and PPSR. Walk away with your plates or your payment—ideally both, in that order.
