Selling a car in Queensland and wondering about the transfer papers? It’s the TMR Vehicle Registration Transfer—do it online via your TMR account or with form F3520, signed by both buyer and seller with the VIN, odometer and sale price.
If the car’s registered, the seller must provide a current QLD safety certificate before advertising and hand it over at sale—no certificate, no legal ad.
The buyer then has 14 days to lodge the transfer and pay the transfer fee plus vehicle registration duty; miss the window and a late fee nips your wallet.
Plates usually stay with the vehicle in QLD (unless you’re keeping personalised ones), and both parties should keep a proper receipt; the seller should lodge a notice of disposal straight away.
Unregistered car? Get an unregistered vehicle permit if you plan to drive it for inspection or home, and everyone can sleep soundly.
