selling a vehicle wa Page 5

Selling a vehicle in WA is mostly paperwork with a side of common sense.

Clean it, gather the service history, and make sure any finance is cleared; a PPSR check and a payout letter keep buyers’ eyebrows unraised.

Agree on payment that actually settles (think in-branch transfer), write a receipt with VIN, rego, date, price and odometer, and hand over the keys once the money is real, not imaginary.

Then jump online to WA DoTDirect to lodge the seller’s notice of disposal/transfer, and ensure the buyer completes their end promptly so future fines don’t find you.

If you’ve got personalised plates, decide whether you’re keeping or transferring them before the sale, and remove any accessories you’re not including.

For the latest rules and forms, check the WA Department of Transport—bureaucracy changes faster than lane discipline on the Kwinana.
