selling car without roadworthy qld Page 3

Thinking about flogging your motor in Queensland without that precious roadworthy certificate? Well, technically, you can sell a car without a roadworthy certificate (also known as a safety certificate), but the buyer will need one before registering the vehicle in their name. This means the onus shifts to the buyer, which might limit your pool of interested parties or knock a few bucks off your asking price.

In Queensland, the seller must provide a safety certificate for the vehicle if it's registered, otherwise, it can’t be sold for registration purposes. Without it, the car is essentially sold as-is, which can be a headache for everyone involved.

New cars typically come with a warranty and a clean bill of health, but used car buyers often check for a roadworthy certificate as a quality stamp. So, skipping this step might make your car less appealing on sites like Tradingpost or CarShowroom.

Best advice? Get the certificate, save yourself and the buyer some grief.
