Selling a car in Victoria isn’t witchcraft, but VicRoads does like its paperwork.
If you’re selling it registered, you’ll generally need a current Victorian Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC) to transfer the rego.
Complete the VicRoads transfer online within 14 days, record the VIN/odometer/date, and give the buyer a signed receipt; keep copies like a paranoid librarian.
No RWC? You can sell it unregistered, or “as is” with the buyer handling RWC and re‑rego—just don’t expect them to cart it away on hope and vibes.
Remove your toll tag, cancel any insurance, and never hand over keys until funds clear (bank transfer or bank cheque beats a suitcase of crumpled notes).
Listing on Tradingpost helps too—you bring the pics and honesty; the buyers bring the tyre-kicking.
