Selling a QLD-registered car to a NSW buyer isn’t witchcraft, just paperwork with a suntan.
If it’s still registered in Queensland, you (the seller) generally need a current QLD safety certificate before advertising and at handover, then lodge a notice of disposal with TMR so the fines don’t follow you like a bad smell. The NSW buyer will need to cancel the QLD rego and hand the plates back (or you can cancel before sale and sell it unregistered), then get a NSW blue slip inspection, a green slip, pay stamp duty and rego, and collect shiny NSW plates. For transport, they can drive it on valid QLD rego, or use an unregistered vehicle permit if it’s unregistered. Always give a proper receipt with VIN, odometer, date and price, and keep copies of ID. As ever, check QLD TMR and NSW Transport for the latest rules, because governments love changing forms more than tyres.
