selling unregistered car qld Page 4

Thinking of flogging an unregistered car in Queensland? Well, buckle up: you can legally sell it, but the buyer better be ready to register it themselves before hitting the road — because driving an unregistered vehicle is a one-way ticket to a hefty fine.

As the seller, you don't need to have the car registered, but you'll have to provide a completed Notice of Disposal form to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR). The buyer assumes the risk and responsibility, including organising a safety certificate (roadworthy check) and registration.

So, if you want to avoid headaches, be crystal clear in your contract that the car is unregistered and sold "as is." For all the nitty-gritty, give the DTMR website a squiz or check places like Tradingpost where unregistered vehicles sometimes pop up.
