Selling a car in NSW? Do the sensible thing and lodge a Notice of Disposal within 14 days on Service NSW so the fines follow the new owner, not you.
Hand the buyer a signed receipt with VIN, date, price, and your details, and keep a copy; number plates stay with the car unless they’re personalised—if they are, swap to standard plates or transfer the custom plates before handover.
The buyer then has 14 days to transfer registration and pay stamp duty and transfer fees; the existing CTP moves with the vehicle.
Finally, remove your e-tag, cancel any toll accounts tied to that plate, and enjoy the serenity of not getting their speeding tickets.
