ship a car interstate Page 24

Shipping a car interstate in Australia isn’t a saga; it’s a phone call, a quote, and a bit of common sense.

Expect open-carrier depot-to-depot runs to sit around AUD 600–1,000 for east-coast hops like Sydney–Melbourne, with enclosed or door-to-door lifting it closer to AUD 1,200–1,800.

Long hauls such as Brisbane–Perth can land in the AUD 1,500–2,500 bracket, and timelines range from 2–7 business days on the east to 10–14 heading across the Nullarbor.

Choose a reputable carrier, confirm transit insurance (what’s covered, excess, and market vs agreed value), and get the booking and condition report in writing.

Prep the car by removing toll tags and loose items, leaving a quarter tank, photographing every panel, and folding in those mirror ears.

If the quote looks suspiciously cheap, it usually is—pay for reliability now and you won’t pay in ulcers later.
