sleeping in car qld Page 8969

Short answer: yes, you can sleep in your car in Queensland—provided you’re parked legally and not tipsy behind the wheel. The big catch is Queensland’s ‘in charge of a vehicle’ rules: if you’re over the alcohol limit and have the keys handy, you can still cop a drink‑driving charge. Local council bylaws may ban camping or sleeping in vehicles in certain streets, parks, or beachfronts, so mind the signs unless you fancy an early‑morning fine. Safer bets are designated rest areas and private property with permission—windows cracked, doors locked, valuables out of sight. If you’re simply pulling over to beat fatigue, the police are more likely to thank you than scold you, provided everything else is above board. Bottom line: park legally, stay sober, keep the keys out of the ignition, and check local rules; then snooze away like a koala on a eucalyptus bender.
