small car comparison australia 2023

Comparing small cars in Australia for 2023? The class is stacked, but the usual trio keeps elbowing to the front.

• Toyota Corolla: Pros—excellent economy, standard safety tech, stellar reliability and resale; Cons—tight rear/boot and a ride that can get jittery on big wheels.
• Mazda 3: Pros—handsome cabin, classy road manners, whisper-quiet on the highway; Cons—cramped back seat/visibility and a ride that can feel a tad firm.
• Hyundai i30: Pros—sharp value, long warranty, comfy seats and no-nonsense tech; Cons—thirstier than rivals in town and spec can vary widely by trim.

Test-drive them back-to-back and buy the one that flatters your commute and your spine—no trophies awarded here.
