south australia coast road trip Page 8

Dreaming of a South Australia coast road trip? Start in Adelaide, roll through the Fleurieu to Victor Harbor, cruise the Coorong to Robe and Beachport, then swing by Mount Gambier’s absurdly blue lake. If you’ve got more time (and snacks), push west to the Eyre Peninsula for Port Lincoln’s seafood, Coffin Bay oysters, and beaches so empty you’ll wave at kangaroos for company. Winter brings whale-spotting along the Great Australian Bight; summer means sun, salt, and a healthy respect for UV stronger than your coffee. Distances are big, fuel stops can be scarce past Ceduna, and mobile reception drops off faster than your diet after a servo pie—plan water, spares, and a proper spare tyre. Sealed roads are fine for most of it, but check local road reports if you’re flirting with dirt, and always give wildlife the right of way unless you fancy panel-beating as a hobby.
