speed signs victoria Page 8

In Victoria, the number on the speed sign isn’t a dare—it’s the legal maximum for that stretch unless another sign says otherwise. Built-up areas default to 50 km/h if unsigned, most rural roads default to 100 km/h, and some freeways post 110 km/h. School zones drop to 40 km/h during the times shown, so read the fine print like your licence depends on it. Electronic variable signs and roadwork limits override the usual numbers, even if they feel painfully slow. Cameras and cops enforce the posted limit, not what your mate claims is “close enough.” Drive to the conditions and keep an eye out—Victoria loves a surprise sign right after a bend.
