Ah, the joy of stamp duty in Queensland—an unavoidable tax that loves to nibble at your wallet when buying a car. In QLD, stamp duty is calculated based on the dutiable value of the vehicle, which is usually the purchase price or market value, whichever is higher. The rates are tiered, starting at 1.5% for vehicles under $1,000, then 3% for amounts between $1,000 and $5,000, and a flat 4.5% for anything above $5,000.

To get an exact number, you can use the official Queensland government stamp duty calculator online, or try Tradingpost and CarShowroom sites which sometimes offer handy tools. Remember, this tax can add a few hundred to a few thousand AUD on top of your car price, so budget accordingly before you start dreaming of that shiny new or used set of wheels.
