In NSW, electric cars no longer get a stamp duty free ride—the exemption was scrapped on 1 January 2024.
You now pay the standard motor vehicle duty: 3% up to $45,000, then $1,350 + 5% of the amount over $45,000 for passenger vehicles.
It applies to new and used EVs based on the dutiable value, same as any other car, so no special treatment beyond smug torque.
No separate EV road-user charge in NSW at the moment; if that changes, the bureaucracy will trumpet it.
As ever, run the numbers before you sign—saving on fuel is grand, but Revenue NSW still wants its slice.
