Want your Forester to stop cosplaying as a city slicker and actually hit the bush? Start with all‑terrain tyres and a modest 25–50 mm lift (springs/struts or spacers) so it clears ruts without rattling your teeth. Add bash plates, recovery points, and a snorkel if water crossings are on the menu; a roof rack, UHF, and a compressor make trips civilised. Expect roughly $800–$1,200 for tyres, $800–$2,000 for lift/suspension, and $300–$900 for plates/snorkel—less if you sniff out used gear on Tradingpost. Keep it legal: mind tyre diameter changes, GVM, and ADRs, and tell your insurer before you go full mountain goat. Do this right and your Forester will surprise LandCruiser owners, which is always fun at the campsite.
