subaru outback 2023 review australia Page 2

The 2023 Subaru Outback is the wagon that thinks it’s an SUV—and does a convincing job. The 2.5‑litre boxer makes 138 kW/245 Nm through a CVT and full‑time AWD, while the XT finally brings turbo grunt with 183 kW/350 Nm. Ride comfort is plush, cabin tech is sensible, and with 213 mm of clearance plus around 522 L of boot, it’s ready for soggy campsites and school runs alike. Towing is a solid 2000 kg (up to 2400 kg for the XT), and real‑world economy hovers near the low‑7s for the 2.5 and higher for the turbo if you’re enthusiastic. Pricing in Australia runs from the low‑$40ks to mid‑$50ks before on‑roads, which undercuts many SUVs it quietly embarrasses.
