If you’ve been waiting for a Subaru Outback with real shove, the Turbo (XT) finally delivers. Its 2.4-litre turbo flat-four serves up about 183 kW and 350 Nm, and while the CVT prefers smoothness to theatrics, it gets a wriggle on when you need an overtake. Ride comfort is plush, AWD grip is unflappable, and it’s an effortless gravel-road tourer with a properly useful boot and the usual EyeSight safety kit. Expect real-world fuel use in the mid-9s L/100 km, and a braked towing figure up to around 2400 kg—a handy step over the 2.5. The infotainment is capable but can lag if you poke it like a teenager’s iPad, and the cabin favours hard-wearing over high-falutin’. In short: a superb long-haul family wagon with genuine punch, just don’t expect a hot hatch in hiking boots.
