subaru outback xt turbo review

The Subaru Outback XT Turbo is what the regular Outback should’ve been from the start—same big comfy wagon, finally with proper shove from a 2.4‑litre turbo boxer.

It surges past caravans without the 2.5’s desperate wheeze, and Subaru’s AWD keeps it planted when the road turns to corrugations and kangaroos.

The CVT still drones if you cane it, but driven sensibly it’s quiet, relaxed and happily sips less than you’d fear for the pace on tap.

Ride and seats are long‑haul friendly, the portrait screen, CarPlay/Android Auto and EyeSight safety kit make daily life easy, and towing capacity steps up over the non‑turbo.

Downsides? It’s not a hot wagon—steering is safe rather than spicy—and the turbo asks a bit more at the bowser.

If you want a tough, roomy touring rig with real overtaking muscle, the XT hits the Aussie brief nicely.
